MAD ABOUT THE HAT E-mail

These two girls should not be here. I mean, OK- one half of the designer duo is Masha Mandzuka, girl originally from Belgrade, but that could hardly be enough to squeeze Anda + Masha in Belgrade Flapper niche.

I mean, c’mon: they are neither emerging nor lesser known, and certainly not local in any sense: on the contrary, they have successful stylists career in New York and Drew Barrymore has been wearing their hat while promoting her latest movie. It is Garance Dore who should be writing about them, not this little Belgrade birdy … and in fact, she does. (And also takes great photos of their things.)

So, what am I thinking, writing about them instead of introducing some new, anonymous young thing with masses of hidden talent?! Well, sometimes you just follow your heart and forget about thinking. Sometimes you just look at a hat and you feel your cheeks flushing of excitement and that is it. You are in love.

The girls started creating their own hats line out of necessity- they got fed up with trying to find the perfect hats to complement their styling. Names of their hats are sort of a “who is who” of of ‘60s and ‘70s icons, clearly revealing their inspiration and fascination with early rock’ n’ roll: Anita (after Anita Pallenberg),Feithful, Keith, Stevie, Johnny…

The thing that I find the most appealing is their carefree and nonchalant nature- there is nothing pretentious or trying-too-hard about these hats (which had cooled me off from wearing hats on more then one occasion).  Anda + Masha are just about to release collection of straw hats and from what I have seen (just a sneak preview) – they rock so much, I almost wanna ask them for autograph and have their poster hung on the wall.

So, what do you think about Anda + Masha hats? And do you wear hats at all?
